Ingredients
  

  • 2 pieces Matjes Herring marinated
  • 4 pieces Bread Rolls rye or sourdough preferred
  • 1 medium Onions thinly sliced
  • 2 pieces Pickles thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Dill or Parsley optional garnish

Instructions
 

  • Rinse and pat dry the matjes herring to remove excess brine.
  • Slice the onions and pickles into thin rings. Prepare the bread rolls by slicing them in half.
  • Place one or two pieces of matjes herring on the bottom half of each roll.
  • Layer the onions and pickles on top of the herring. Add fresh dill or parsley if desired.
  • Place the top half of the roll on and serve immediately.

Notes

For a spicier twist, try adding horseradish or mustard. You can also experiment with different types of pickles or fresh herbs to enhance the flavor.
